Security, Hoaxes and You.

It goes without saying that a network or an individual PC make our lives and businesses more effecient and rewarding. Unfortunately, part of todays internet problems, are threats that grow evermore resourceful and powerful with each passing day.

The home user is now one of the greatest threats to other computers and networked systems because they are the least maintained and secured computers. This is because of their shear numbers inaddition to the spread of affordable broadband; have now connected home computers permanently connected to the internet. Businesses small to large and local to global have done a far better job protecting their assets simply because profitability and survival are extremely important to the owners and managers.

Unfortunately, many businesses are haphazard or downright neglectful in managing the risk and potential liabilities that an outage, breach or theft can force on a business.

Hoaxes are now becoming a more pervasive problem as well. These are usually emails that provide false but seemingly authentic warnings that convice people to take action immediately; without first determining the validity of the threat and potential problems or harm that these email warnings with their signature call to action can do. Sometimes the action is innocuous. Other times it can result in great harm and economic loss. Either way, these excercises in human engineering are costly and time consuming to the businesses and individuals that are affected.
